Calling All Innovators For The O'Reilly Emerging Telephony Conference 2008

Call for participation is now open

Sebastopol, CA, August 28, 2007--Now in its third year, ETel, the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference, brings together all of the voices in telephony that need to be heard--from telecommunication company executives, garage hackers, mobile executives, programmers, researchers to venture capitalists, community activists and CEOs. The call for participation is now open; submissions will be accepted until September 17, 2007.

The conference, taking place March 3-4 in San Diego, California, is an ambitious mix of inspirational speakers who lay out visionary road maps to the future, combined with practical, unconventional hacks from small, innovative startups. ETel conference chair Surj Patel is assembling a program that will focus around three main themes: Business, Culture, and Technology. Mr. Patel and the planning team are soliciting submissions from telephony innovators, product developers, university and industry researchers, coders, and hackers who work at the intersection of voice, instant messaging, the mobile ecosystem, and the Web. Mr. Patel had this to say about what's new for ETel in 2008:

"This year has seen many events, most notably the launch of the iPhone. The industry is realizing that polished, well designed products have a place in this market. The seductiveness of the platform has already motivated many hackers to create ports for common scripting languages and game emulators. We want to encourage submissions from speakers who can rethink real-time communications, who can think beyond what is typical in telecommunications."

Topics to be covered at this year's ETel will be:

-Information Service Product Design

-The iPhone Economy

-Handsets and Industrial Design Innovation

-The Sociology of Social Networks

-Open Source Hardware and Software

-How Business Deals Change the Landscape of Telecom

-Open Codes and Protocols

-What's Next for Voice

O'Reilly conferences are traditionally about bringing key industry leaders together for exchange of ideas and distribution of knowledge. For ETel, the goal is to bring fresh ideas and profits into a stagnant industry by providing a marketplace for innovation. In addition, ETel will provide leading edge executives in the global telecommunications industry with the forum for exchange of knowledge by bringing together developers, academics, and entrepreneurs.

ETel is conveniently co-located with the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference (ETech). Registration and press registration for ETel will open November 2007.
