O'Reilly to Handle Distribution for Fellow Computer Book Publishers

Press release: December 2, 2003

Sebastopol, CA--O'Reilly & Associates, Inc., the largest independent publisher of computer books, announced that it is providing distribution, sales, and fulfillment services for three other leading independent publishers--No Starch Press, Paraglyph Press, and Syngress Publishing--starting January 1, 2004. O'Reilly will handle retail and direct sales, warehousing, and shipping, as well as provide direct marketing and PR support.

"This partnership goes beyond a standard distribution agreement," said Laura Baldwin, O'Reilly's COO. "We're committed to getting our partners' books the attention they deserve, both in bookstores and throughout the technology community. To that end, we'll be including their titles in our grassroots marketing efforts. This is a true collaboration between like-minded companies. Our books are complementary, and our publishing philosophies are aligned."

Founder and president Tim O'Reilly adds, "In the past few years, the technology bust and worldwide recession have tested all independent computer book publishers. Now the market is poised for growth. I'm convinced that we're on the brink of a huge wave of innovation that will expand the market for good technology information. And I'm pleased that we'll be working with our new partners to meet that need."
